The Irish Cartoon Saloon team of Nora Twomey, Paul Young and Tomm Moore are all in LA this week, ahead of the 90th Oscars® being held in Hollywood this Sunday, March 4, 2018 at the Dolby Theatre®.
Cartoon Saloon has been nominated for Best Animated Feature for Director Nora Twomey’s first solo feature film The Breadwinner based on Deborah Ellis’s fiercely uplifting novel about protest and resistance. The story features Parvana, a 12-year-old girl who gives up everything to provide for her family and reunite with her father in Kabul, Afghanistan just as the Taliban regime began to fall.
“I am so thrilled to represent the work of so many talented animators, actors and artists at this years Academy Awards,” said Nora Twomey this week.
“No matter what happens on the night, The Breadwinner is testament to the skills and talents of hundreds of people and I am grateful to the Academy for highlighting our work.”
Nora and co-founder of Cartoon Saloon Paul Young are both tweeting this week from LA from the @ireland Twitter account.

The Breadwinner boasts the breathtaking hand-drawn animation that has made Cartoon Saloon one of the world’s most well-loved and respected animation studios. It is a co-production between Cartoon Saloon, Aircraft Pictures and Melusine with compositing by Guru Studios in Toronto. Hollywood actress and human rights activist, Angelina Jolie is an executive producer on the film.
The Irish premiere took place at the Audi Dublin International Film Festival on Thursday February 22, and the Kilkenny hometown premiere was on Sunday February 25. The film will be on general release in Ireland and the UK from Friday May 25, 2018.
