A 46-year-old man is in critical condition after an assault in Kilkenny City overnight.
An area close to John’s Green in the city has been cordoned off following the incident which happened at around 4am.

Emergency services attended the scene and the man was taken to St Luke’s Hospital with very serious injuries.
Another man, aged in his 30s, has been arrested in relation to the incident and is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act in Kilkenny Garda Station.
A house on the Castlecomer Road is being preserved for a technical examination and Gas House Lane is currently closed off.
