Approval’s been granted to a residential development at the former Glanbia site in Castlecomer.
The new mixed use project by Greenstripe Ltd, passed by Kilkenny County Council and later An Bord Pleanála, will consist of 35 residential units, including six one-bedroom apartments, five two-bedroom apartments, 21 three-bedroom duplex apartments, and three two-storey terraced houses.
It will also feature public open space as well as access points onto High Street and the Ballinakill Road for vehicles and onto Love Lane for pedestrians and cyclists.
Independent Councillor Maurice Shortall’s told KCLR News; “It’s a very welcome development for Castlecomer and I would hope that it’s a mix of social and affordable housing”.
He adds; “And by affordable housing I mean houses that are genuinely affordable for single people and young couples, we have seen some instances where affordable housing has been over €300,000 in some parts of the country so I hope it’s fair for everyone”.
While Cllr Pat Fitzpatrick of Fianna Fáil has also been reacting;
Fine Gael Councillor John Brennan has been telling The KCLR Daily it’s fantastic for the area which is also due to see Aldi open next year;
