Retaining funding for Irish farmers is at the heart of the IFA’s stance on the next Common Agricultural Policy according to Carlow’s Alice Doyle, the Association’s Deputy President.
The new CAP, which will come into effect in 2028, is expected to be a key topic during Ireland’s six-month Presidency of the European Union, which begins in July.
Speaking to KCLR News, Alice Doyle said the significane of CAP funding could not be understated. “It’s essential for us to remain viable in every single sector that we actually retain the funding that we have.”
“Ideally, what we would want is an increase in the funding, even to keep up with inflation but even to be retaining the current funding is under pressure as it stands. So that is our priority, because every single sector requires that funding in Ireland to stay viable.”
