Carlow town’s revamped Barrack Street now has eight new homes.
The stretch of derelict buildings along the busy thoroughfare has long been lamented, many critical of its visual impact especially in the midst of a housing crisis.
However, yesterday as part of a busy itinerary locally Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne was on hand to officially cut the ribbon.Carlow County Council says “These high quality homes will provide secure accommodation for local families and represents another positive step in delivering much-needed housing in our community”.
Speaking to KCLR News’ Dermot Keyes, Minister Browne (who also turned the sod on the €2.9m rail link project connecting Carlow train station to the town centre and inspected ongoing works at Montgomery Street where 32 new homes are nearing completion) outlined how impressed he is by the progress being made on the housing front in Carlow;
