‘Heritage at the Heart of Carlow County Council’ is the theme of tonight’s free lecture at the Seven Oaks Hotel in Carlow at 8pm. The event has been organised by Carlow Historical & Archaeological Society.
The lecture will be delivered by Eoin Sullivan, Carlow County Council’s Heritage Officer and will showcase some of the heritage projects that are currently ongoing within County Carlow.
These projects are being delivered through the County Carlow Heritage Plan (2024-29) and the Historic Towns Initiative Plan (Heritage-Led Regeneration) for Carlow Town and are addressing some overlooked aspects of the county’s rich heritage.
There’s been a steady increase in the number of community groups availing of the assistance offered by the staff at County Carlow’s Heritage Office. Several community groups have delivered inspiring heritage projects that have brought about welcome recognition at both regional and national level – some of these projects will be outlined in the lecture.
Initiatives, such as the annual Carlow Heritage Seminar have grown in strength. This year’s seminar will literally hit the road via a coach tour to visit key sites such as Ballymoon Castle, Newtown and Tinryland (all free of charge) this Saturday, April 18th.
Dr Eoin’s lecture will demonstrate how heritage has been positively integrated into Carlow County Council’s output.
