The Birch Wood Loop, a new walking trail just outside the village of Tullahought, will officially open this evening at 6:30pm as Heritage Week draws to a close.
The new walk offers an additional trail for locals and visitors to the Lingaun Valley and provides a shorter alternative to the popular Kilmacoliver Loop Walk.
Speaking to KCLR News, Jimmy Walsh of Tullahought Tidy Towns detailed the new trail’s layout.
“So it starts in the same position, just 100 yards or 200 yards from the bridge of Tullahought, and it’s going to take a right-hand swing rather than a left-hand swing, and it’s going to bring you down to Birchwood, and there’s panoramic views across to Ahenny, and out to the Suir Valley, and back up then to meet the long pavement at the top of the hill, what’s called the Three Trees. People have been using it, local people have been using it over the years, so it’s just, it adds another option to the, the walks we have.” said Jimmy.
