Approval has been granted by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) for the next stage of the N80 Leagh Bends safety scheme in Carlow.
The project can now move to its fifth stage, allowing the County Council to engage with landowners, appoint an archaeologist and prepare tender and design documents.
Cllr Fintan Phelan’s been telling KCLR News that the dangerous stretch of road will be made safer, with hopes that construction could begin within two years.
But he says in the long term the local authority should look at a larger upgrade;
