Only 44 fines for dog fouling were issued in the entire country last year – none of them in Carlow or Kilkenny.
Our two local authorities were among 17 of 31 across the country to not issue a single penalty for the offence between January and December.
The figures have been released by Vision Ireland following its survey of 220 people who are blind or visually impaired, as part of the organisation’s Clear Our Paths campaign which raises awareness of the various obstacles that can prevent safe movement.
They’re concerned how dangerous it can be when dog owners don’t clean up after their pets.
And also for the number of vehicles found parking up on pathways.
In this regard our county councils did issue fines in 2025 – 74 in Carlow with 142 in Kilkenny:
