13 man Carlow have beaten Westmeath by 0-14 to 1-9 in today’s Leinster senior hurling championship.
John Meyler’s side had to fight for the entire 70 minutes to ensure that they still have a chance to play in the Liam Mc Carthy next season.
Late points from Andrew Gaule and Denis Murphy secured the win after Sean Murphy’s dismissal inside the last 10 minutes while Diarmuid Byrne received a second yellow after the break
The teams were level at half time at 1-5 to 0-8 after Derek Mc Nicholas early penalty gave Westmeath the early advantage.
Carlow now face an anxious wait to see if they can avoid a play off with the Christy ring winners-that will be determined by next week’s clash of London and Westmeath.
