Anti Pylon campaigners in Carlow and Kilkenny are giving a cautious welcome to the announcement that Eirgrid will investigate the possibility of putting the Gridlink project underground
The move comes after plans were published last week for the Grid West project which would include an underground route for the electricity supply network.
Plans for a pylon network to cross through Carlow and Kilkenny have been met with huge opposition and the company has confirmed its received 35,000 submissions at the conclusion of its public consultation phase.
Helena Fitzgerald of ‘Save Our Heartland’ in Carlow is sceptical that the underground route will be picked while John Leamy of Care for Clara told KCLR that putting the supply underground is not the only key concern for those who are opposed to the plans.
