The council says ‘there is no mystery’ associated with the contract signed by council executives back in June to start work on new Central Access Scheme bridge.
Independent Councillor Breda Gardner raised the issue when she asked who was present when the contract was signed on June 10th just weeks after the new council was elected.
But Acting director of Services Simon Walton told Sue Nunn today there was a certain urgency as any of the in-river works had to be carried out before September in line with fisheries requirements.
And he says there is no controversy surrounding the contract.
