Carlow Kilkenny TD Ann Phelans Ministerial portfolio has been expanded.
The Rural Affairs Minister has been assigned to the Department of the Environment with special responsibility for local, community and rural economic development.
It will see Minister Phelans work span 3 different departments now – she already has responsibilities at the Depts of Agriculture and Transport.
She is due to meet with the former Environment Minister and now Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan in Brussels this week to discuss the challenges and issues facing rural Ireland.
