Around 100 cyclists gathered on the Parade in Kilkenny City this morning.
The annual Mary Slattery Charity Cycle, which raises money for the Chernobyl Kilkenny Outreach Group, is started at around 11 o’clock.
It’s been an eventful year for the local group as earlier their van full of supplies was vandalised and its contents robbed.
Thanks to the good will of locals, however, the van was restocked and made the trip to Belarus.
The contingent will be cycling all the way to Dungarvan in Waterford today and back again tomorrow afternoon.
The round-trip is an estimated 200 kilometre cycle.
