The train to Dublin was stopped for nearly an hour last night after the alarm was raised when people with guns were spotted near the track between Carlow and Athy.
The driver of another train had alerted Central Control after seeing 2 people with what appeared to be firearms adjacent to the line.
Gardai were called and the 18.25 service from Waterford to Dublin was held in Athy for 55 minutes while the line was checked out.
The train proceeded its journey after a thorough check – it’s understood the individuals had left the area.
