Almost 2,000 environmental complaints were reported to authorities in Carlow and Kilkenny last year alone.
The vast majority of the 1,800 complaints made across the two counties in 2014 related to litter which accounted for 1,560 of the cases.
86 instances of illegal dumping were reported, 70 odour complaints, over 100 water pollution cases and 12 instances relating to noise.
A small number of complaints were also reported by members of the public via the Environmental Protection Agency’s National Environmental Complaints Line which were then passed on by them to the relevant local bodies.
11 local complaints have been received by the EPA to date this year:
8 relating to illegal dumping, 2 odour issues and 1 complaint concerning agricultural landspreading.
These cases have now been forwarded to the respective county councils.
