The board of management of St Patrick’s Centre in Kilkenny has expressed their “disappointment” at a HIQA report.
The report into the centre for people with intellectual disabilities was published yesterday.
Disability advocacy groups have condemned what they’re calling a damning report which was carried out by HIQA in May of this year.
The report states that during their inspection there was a number of hygiene problems, including visible rat traps in the dining room of one of the bungalows.
There were also serious problems outlined with fire safety and understaffing at the facility.
In a statement to KCLR this morning, the Board of Management of St Patrick’s have expressed their disappointment at the findings.
And they say they’re working closely with the HSE to address the issues raised and also to secure funding to hire extra staff.
They say they have also since secured funding for fire precautionary works and other works which have now either been completed or are in progress.
The centre says it wants to reassure families and residents that all immediate care necessary will continue to be provided.
