Emergency meeting of IFA Executive Council today

The Executive Council of the IFA is to hold an emergency meeting today following yesterday’s shock resignation by its General Secretary.

The level of Pat Smith’s alleged 400 thousand euro pay package had come under scrutiny after Carlow IFA chairman and former deputy president of the association Derek Deane had pushed for details to be made public.

In his resignation statement Mr Smith said he was stepping down in the association’s best interests.

Speaking to KCLR News, Chair of Carlow IFA, Derek Deane says there needs to be more transparency when it comes to these issues.
