The Carlow man who raised questions over the salary of the IFA general secretary says serious lessons must be learned now.
Derek Deane who chairs the Carlow branch of the Association started the debate over how much money Pat Smith was being paid claiming the sum was in excess of 400 thousand euro
Mr Smith stepped down yesterday saying his decision was in the best interests of the IFA.
Meanwhile the Kilkenny IFA Chairman says Derek Deane was Deputy President at the time Pat Smith was given the job and should have known the salary as he was on the panel that interviewed him.
But Mr Deane says that was a matter for the President and Treasurer, not him.
