Carlow Cllr Fintan Phelan agrees with decision to use Electric Picnic site to accommodate Ukrainian refugees

Up to 750 people can be housed in tents at the Stradbally grounds from today

Up to 750 Ukrainian refugees are likely to be housed in tents at the Electric Picnic site from today.

A six week contract has been signed by the Department of Integration for glamping tents to be used at the site in Stradbally, Co Laois.

The government continues to struggle with a chronic shortage of accommodation and says tented accommodation will be the primary means of housing from next week

Carlow Councillor Fintan Phelan says it should be used – but only as a temporary solution telling KCLR; “Certainly, some of the accommodation in Stradbally can be used as a temporary facility, as a temporary stop-gap for Ukrainians and if that is there I think it’s right that it’s being used but I stress the point temporary and I think it’s providing a temporary solution and I think hopefully the Government departments are planning now on a longer term solution”.
