Carlow Councillor Andy Gladney’s temporarily stepping away from politics.
The Sinn Féin representative, who’s based in Bagenalstown, is battling prostate cancer as well as neuralgia of the face.
A spokesperson for him this morning told KCLR News that Andy’s immediate focus is on his treatment but he fully intends returning to serving his community once well enough to do so.
He’s also hugely thankful of the support he’s received to date.
It’s as his party leader Mary Lou McDonald is due to visit the county today.
