The new Cathaoirleach of the Muinebheag district says councillors need to re-connect with their communities.
Fine Gael’s Micheal Doran was named in the role by the Bagenalstown members at their AGM last evening.
He says the Covid-19 restrictions over the last year or so have created a gap that needs to be bridged with local residents and community groups, telling KCLR News:
“Because of the Pandemic we haven’t been able to get out and about and meet people face-to-face, especially meeting voluntary groups, businesses, community leaders over the last year so hopefully we’ll be able to get out this year and I really am going to make a strong effort to engage with any groups and individuals I can over the year”.
He adds “I think it’s very important that we reconnect again with the communities across the municipal area and make them feel engaged again with the council, it’s also very important that we promote enterprises to help them to trade again sustainably into the future and we’ll be working very hard to promote that”.
And Cllr Doran says “As you know we’re undertaking our county development plan and we’ll be looking for submissions throughout the summer and it’s very important that local groups and people engage in the process to shape our county moving into the future”.
