Carlow County Board have voted to restructure the county championship season, with a revised format set to come into effect next year.
Under the new arrangements, Carlow will revert to a mixed championship season, similar to the structure in place prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. In recent seasons, the county had operated a split format, with the hurling championship completed first, followed by the football championship later in the year.
The decision marks a significant change in how the inter-club calendar will be organised, with hurling and football now running alongside each other once again.
It has also been confirmed that teams competing in the football championship will play five group games under the revised structure, providing clubs with a guaranteed run of fixtures during the championship phase of the season.
The changes aim to create a more balanced and traditional championship calendar, while also ensuring regular competitive games for clubs across the county.
