Carlow county Council is one of 8 local authorities across the country who failed to spend money allocated for housing for the travelling community.
It’s emerged that the county council did not draw down any of their allocations.
In total eight counties across the country failed to spend a total of 1.2 million euro earmarked for the travelling housing fund.
Speaking to KCLR news Councillor William Paton said they do things differently in Carlow. He said “we don’t isolate members of the the travelling community from the rest of the community” explaining how the council instead allocates “one in ten houses in a housing scheme to members of the travelling community” so that they integrate and “feel part of the greater community”.
