Carlow and Kilkenny to benefit from Ireland’s largest cancer care centre
The launch of Ireland’s largest cancer care centre – which includes St Luke’s Hospital for Carlow/Kilkenny will take place on Wednesday.
The Clinical Academic Directorate for Cancer Care will serve 1.1 million people.
The launch of this cancer care centre has been described as a step forward for cancer patients.
The Ireland East Hospital Group is the largest of the country’s seven hospital groups and includes 11 hospitals.
St Luke’s Hospital for Carlow/Kilkenny is one of the 11 which also includes Wexford general and the Midland Regional.
The clinical academic direcortorate for Cancer Care is being officially launched at the UCD Conway Institute on Wednesday morning at 10am.
Although it will be based in Dublin, cancer patients in Carlow and Kilkenny will have access to it.
It will be set across two sites, which means larger departments and an expansion to their range of services.
