Fianna Fáil TD Peter Chap Cleere has called for new Garda recruits to be deployed across the system once they complete their training.
Speaking in the Dáil yesterday, Deputy Cleere highlighted the 18 Garda stations in Kilkenny and 8 in Carlow, noting they operate at varying levels of capacity.
He stressed the low staffing levels in local stations, recalling that only a few years ago, his own local station, a substation of Thomastown Garda Station, had two sergeants and 10 guards.
Deputy Cleere made the comments during a discussion with Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan.
