There have been further calls for more to be done to tackle safety concerns around e-scooters.
The Road Safety Authority is appealing to parents not to buy such vehicles for their children, saying it’s extremely concerned about the high number of serious injuries caused by collisions involving them.
While Doctors at Temple Street Children’s Hospital too have highlighted the dangers, saying six children were on life support there in recent weeks due to incidents relating to e-scooters.
Yesterday, a man aged in his twenties was hospitalised after crashing on the Killeshin Road outside St. Clare’s Church in Graiguecullen. While on Monday the Funeral Mass took place for local teenager Janis Ghirghircic Ozols who died in an incident on Carpenter’s Way in Carlow town the previous week.
Fr Tom Little officiated at the service held at the The Holy Family Church in Askea where he outlined the sense of exhilaration and freedom that people can get from e-scooters, while also highlighting the dangers that come with them.
