Gardaí are urging motorists in Carlow and Kilkenny to slow down this bank holiday weekend.
The June Bank Holiday is always a busy one on the roads across the country and Gardaí say they will be out in force locally today, tomorrow and on Monday.
Speaking to KCLR, Thomastown Inspector Audrey Dormer says they’re also launching a new road safety operation for the rest of the month.
According to Inspector Dormer, ‘Operation Surround’, which will be running every weekend in June, aims to “reduce the number of fatal and serious collisions on our roads – especially among young drivers.”
It will see local Gardaí involved in a “highly visable, maximum-impact drink-driving blitz”.
