As part of our ongoing series of interviews in these strange times, I caught up with songwriter Edel Meade a few weeks back, shortly after I had featured her powerful album “Brigids And Patricias”.
Edel has many strings to her bow (to start with a mixed metaphor). She has studied and excelled in both the jazz and traditional music forms and in recent years has also studied songwriting at masters’ level at the University of Limerick. Edel had a previous life as a journalist and that has seeped in to her lyrics which are razor sharp and atmospheric. She has never been idle as a creative and her most recent album is a perfect distillation of her talents, a solo album of original songs (recorded in-between lockdowns during a worldwide pandemic) and released 8th March 2021, International Women’s Day.
We got to chat about most of this but time ran very confortably away as we travelled along her varied and interesting creative life.
All information about Edel and her work are on her website
