Concern for Irish Troops in Lebanon after escalation in the Middle East

The Irish Defence Forces troops position in Lebanon is being closely observed following a significant escalation in the area over the weekend.

After the assassination of a senior commander, the militant organisation Hezbollah launched hundreds of missiles towards Israel’s border.

UNIFIL headquarters and the Defence Forces are keeping an eye on the safety of our peacekeepers, while Irish soldiers took refuge in bunkers and “all are accounted for.”

379 members of the 124th Infantry Battalion deployed for peacekeeping duties in April of this year.
