Death of yet another horse in Kilkenny City reignites calls for further laws around licensing

The controversial death of another horse in Kilkenny has been described as horrific and brutality at its worst.

CCTV footage is now circulating on social media of the incident which happened in the Hebron area in recent weeks and clearly shows a horse-driven sulky slam into a signpost – the horse died while the ‘driver’ suffered injuries after being thrown forward off the vehicle.

Sulky racing on public roads is banned in Kilkenny but Andrew McGuinness, who was behind that move, says unfortunately there are people who don’t observe the laws.

Subsequent calls on the Government have been made to introduce licensing around horses and horse drawn vehicles.

Councillor McGuinness says he wrote to the Transport Minister but was not very happy with the reply, which stated that he did not intend to amend the laws that are in place.
