Program 2 – Unique Aspects of the River Nore

In this program we explore some of the unique features of the river; features that make it special.We discuss the building of the canal, that was never finished, with Pat Boyd, local historian and nature enthusiast, who has a deep interest in the river. We hear about the freshwater pearl mussel, unique to the Nore, with Wildlife Ranger Jimi Conroy and we are regaled with a list of salmon stands with fishermen Tommy Hoyne and Paddy Dunne. Thomastown native Shem Caulfield talks about cot fishing and also about the building of an Olympic sized swimming pool in the area.
