Domestic violence incidents reported to Gardaí have risen by more than 20% in the past two years, with an average of 1,250 incidents recorded each week throughout last year. This stark statistic underscores the ongoing and escalating crisis of domestic abuse in Ireland.
The increase in reported cases reflects the widespread nature of the issue, drawing attention to the urgent need for continued efforts to address domestic violence and support victims.
Ireland South MEP Kathleen Funchion has called the figures a sobering reminder of the devastating impact domestic violence continues to have on individuals and families nationwide. “These numbers are a call to action for greater support, prevention measures, and resources for those affected by abuse,” Ms Funchion said said.
Authorities and advocacy groups are stressing the importance of increased awareness, stronger legal protections, and better access to support services for victims as part of a broader response to the crisis.
