Members of Carlow County Council will be briefed on a draft budgetary plan for 2017 this afternoon.
A special meeting is being held to outline the allocations to both Carlow and Muine Bheag Municipal Districts.
It comes as fears remain that the overall budget for the council will be over €1 million euro in deficit.
From 4.30 today Carlow’s local representatives will be discussing the draft budget plans for the two municipal districts in the county for next year.
As it stands, the council are facing an overall budget deficit of over a million euro and it’s understood talks are continuing with government officials to try and find a solution.
However, last month councillors agreed to introduce half an hour’s free parking on a number of streets in Carlow Town and it’s been revealed that that now means the council are losing out on a further €24,000 a year.
This will have to be made up by either increasing other charges or reducing the amount the council spend.
The draft budget being discussed today would allocate over €1.1 million to Carlow Municipal District and just over €700,000 to Muine Bheag.
The largest allocations include over €300,000 for maintenance of local roads in each district and €189,000 for the upkeep of Carlow Town Park and open spaces.
