A major boost for Carlow’s green economy is on the way as a local solar company announces a €20 million investment over the next two years.
Sun Arc says the expansion will create fifty new skilled jobs, more than doubling its current workforce in from thirty employees.
The investment comes as they prepare to launch its new “Solar as a Service” model in March a move set to strengthen Carlow’s position in the renewable energy sector.
Managing Director Pat Thompson outlined what sectors the new roles would be created.
“A wide spectrum, so it’ll be from all across the business and so starting with the girls in the admin office and sales operations which covers a wide spectrum.”
“So there will be in operations, project management, electricians, roofers for the installation crews, we’ll even need people in the store, we’re expanding there at the moment, and we’re expanding our office spaces as well.”
“Mr Thompson also explains what “Solar as a Service” is: “Sun Arc enables businesses to install solar panels with no upfront cost. Instead of paying the cost of equipment and installation, businesses simply pay a reduced, fixed energy rate for a 10-15 year period. During that time, we handle the installation, maintenance, monitoring, and system upgrades and after that term of the agreement is over, we will sell that system back to them for €1.”
Pat spoke to KCLR News’ Martin Quilty about the expansion:
