Eight motorists were penalised for using hatch markings on a controversial stretch of the Kilkenny Ring Road last evening.
The local roads policing unit issued the Fixed Charge Penalty Notices (FCPN) to those caught using hatch markings on the approach to the Bennettsbridge Road Roundabout as an overtaking lane.
The route layout changed last year but some continue to operate as if its former offering was in play.
Gardaí locally warn “At this location, motorists who are obeying the rules of the road are endangered by people using this area as an overtake and indeed a lane. Whether we like or don’t like a road layout, regulations need to be followed so other road users are not endangered. We did not use an unmarked vehicle for this and many drivers actually overtook the patrol car illegally to complete their manoeuvre.
Those issued with FCPNs are now expected to pay €80 fine with one penalty point attached.
