Gardaí are warning you to be on alert after a man was scammed out of cash by a ‘Fake Garda’.
The elderly man answered the door to the culprit who claimed he was a ‘plain-clothes Garda’ checking for counterfeit notes in the Callan area.

He took the mans money and told him to follow him on the local Garda station before leaving in a red coloured saloon style car.
Garda Noelle Curran says they are hoping someone might have spotted the man, who is believed to be in his 40’s, in the Green Lane area of the town.
Anyone with information should contact the Gardaí in Callan or Kilkenny city.
In the meantime Gardaí are warning you to be extra wary of callers to your home and to always ask for identification.
