From Carlow to Graceland – a new document has come to light CONFIRMING the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s Carlow connections.
However, this particular connection may not be the kind Carlovians will want to boast of as it comes in the form of an 18th Century court document showing the family fled the country after William Presley was assaulted in Hacketstown.
In Carlow Court on August 25th, 1775, the great-great-great-great grandfather of Elvis Presley claimed that he had been “violently insulted, assaulted, beat and abused” by a group of men.
William emigrated from his home in Shillelagh to the US later that year with his son Andrew.
The document is up for sale in Whyte’s Auctioneers Eclectic Collector sale on the 14th of May and is estimated to fetch between €500 and €700.
