Father-to-be who drowned to death was from Carlow

The man who drowned while snorkling in Waterford on Sunday night has been named as Carlow man, Daniel Butler.

The 38-year-old father-to-be got into difficulty while in the water in Ardmore at around 6pm.

The Coastguard were notified and the rescue helicopter airlifted him to Waterford University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Daniel was from Idrone Park in Carlow but was living in Athy, Co Kildare.

He had been working in Ballon Meats.
