Carlow TD breaks ranks calling for Garda Commissioner to stand aside

Fine Gael Deputy Pat Deering says the Garda Commissioner needs to step aside in order for some credibility to be restored to the force.
The Carlow/Kilkenny TD has broken ranks within Fine Gael saying its his personal opinion that Nóirín O’Sullivan should step aside for the duration of the inquiry in the whistleblower controversy.
Speaking to KCLR Live Deputy Deering says what has happened to Maurice McCabe is a disgrace.
And he says its time it was put right.
However the Garda Commissioner has issued a statement this lunchtime to say her position remains unchanged.
Nóirín O’ Sullivan says “A campaign of false accusations, repeated and multiplied, do not make me guilty of anything”.
She said the easiest option would be to step aside until the Commission finishes its work BUT she says she is not taking that option because she is innocent.
