Fleadh Cheoil rolls into Leighlinbridge this weekend

Preparations are well under way for Fleadh Cheoil Cheatharlach 2016

Leighlinbridge is the setting for the three-day festival which begins this week.

A weekend of craic agus ceol officially launches this Friday in the Lord Bagenal Inn.

Local master of the traditional flute, Ciarán Somers – who’s launching his debut album with singer/guitarist Dónal Clancy – will be the main performer on the night.

The competitions get under way on Saturday morning in Leighlinbridge Primary School and there’ll be an official session trail later that evening – starting with a singing session in Ó Braonáin’s bar.

This year’s fleadh comes to a close on Sunday with a special Fleadh Barbeque at Meaney’s Bar.

Organisers say there’ll be plenty of young talent performing and all are invited to attend.
