Former Kilkenny Mayor wants abolition of borough & town councils reversed

A former Mayor of Kilkenny City is calling on political parties to seek a reversal of the abolition of  borough and town councils last year.

The number of councillors was also reduced nationally from 1,647 to below one thousand last year.

Minister Brendan Howlin has described their abolition as one of the biggest mistakes Labour had made in Government.

The party passed a motion at its annual conference at the weekend seeking the reversal of their abolition. Sean O’hArgain who brought the motion wants other political parties to follow suit
