County Councils across the South East are warning of the chance of further flooding over the next few days.
The region is experiencing high spring tides, combined with strong winds and surge, which may cause wave overtopping and coastal flooding.
Wexford’s local authority’s advising businesses and residents in Wexford Town, Wexford Harbour, and areas prone to flooding to prepare their homes and businesses from this evening.
Their counterparts in Waterford too warn of further localised and river flooding.
While Carlow’s and Kilkenny’s each issued a moderate weather advisory for flooding which runs to midnight Sunday.
Met Éireann Forecaster Rebecca Cantwell says we’ve had a lot more rain than normal at this time of the year, noting; “Right through the month of January we’ve had, particularly in the south and east, we’ve seen three to five time the average rainfall that we’d expected for the time of year in these areas so it’s been very wet and it is going to continue to be wet even if it’s not particularly very heavy rainfall, it is falling on already saturated ground, rivers are at or above bank conditions”.
Meanwhile, Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Peter Burke has told KCLR that businesses impacted can now apply for supports (more on that here).
