The local Garda injured during the ramming yesterday of a patrol car in County Kilkenny has been released from hospital.
Two serving members were on checkpoint duty when the vehicle was struck by another at about 4:30pm in the Callan area, close to the county boundary with Tipperary.
It’s understood to have been hit by the 4×4 that was taken in Killenaule, then sighted in Callan, before being found abandoned in New Ross last evening. (More on that here).
A senior Garda locally’s confirmed that one guard was taken to hospital but has since been released and investigations are ongoing.
Cllr Pat Fitzpatrick Chairs the Joint Policing Committee and he’s been telling KCLR “There’s a full investigation and it’s making significant progress is what I understand and again I want to commend the gardai that were involved and all the gardai locally who do so much trojan work to keep our community safe, we have a very good team of members of An Garda Siochana in Kilkenny”.
