Gardaí in Kilkenny and Waterford look set to be armed with tasters on a trial basis.
It’s one of a number of measures going before Cabinet this morning.
Over 120 members of the force will be given tasers as early as next week as part of this pilot project which will also run in Dublin.
The Justice Minister is bringing a memo to Cabinet this morning on the six month trial.
Also on the Cabinet agenda, are plans to introduce emergency legislation to fast track key projects by cutting the red tape around them.
The laws also contains measures to reform judicial reviews.
Senior Ministers will also discuss proposals to significantly increase the public budgets for RTE and TG4.
While an update on the 2027 Ryder Cup will also be discussed with it estimated to be worth 220 million to the economy.
