Gardai puncture hole in Kilkenny’s illegal cigarette trade

A former Chief Superintendent says illegal cigarettes are readily available in Kilkenny City.

A number of undercover operations were carried out by Gardaí in the City last week, targeting criminals selling contraband and counterfeit cigarettes as well as illicit whites which are very cheaply made.

Kevin Donohoe headed up the ‘Test Purchases’ that were carried out locally and told KCLR Live this morning that the operations were successful.

The former Chief Superintendent says they’re contacted by big cigarette companies to carry out this work all over the country.
