Gowran’s School Bus Group will hold a public meeting at the Parish Hall on Monday evening next at 8pm to highlight the need for additional Bus Eireann services to ferry local secondary school students to and from the village.
At present, approximately a third of students in Gowran have access to Bus Eireann school transport, which leaves the remainder getting to school in Kilkenny City through various means, primarily through parent carpooling.
A formal invitation to the meeting has been extended to local Oireachtas members and County Councillors alike.
It states: “We want to discuss the way forward to the ongoing distressing situation of no secondary school bus by Bus Eireann for the several dozens of children of Gowran. We will be setting out the ongoing impact on children, school traffic safety and financial implications for parents.
“In addition, we want to have addressed the continuous lack of communication from Bus Eireann, access to funds not used, and to have answers to the many alternative proposals that have been made over the past three years and the solutions for the years to come.”
Brendan Hayes is a member of the group and yesterday, he spoke to KCLR’s Dermot Keyes in Gowran about next Monday night’s meeting, building a positive relationship with Bus Eireann while also discussing what can be done to animate the village.
