Grants for older people to help make their homes safer and more accessible have never been more crucial, with funding now available in Carlow and Kilkenny.
However, recent changes to the application process have made it more complicated for some, as highlighted by councillors at the recent Carlow Monthly Meeting.
During the meeting, local councillors raised concerns over the delays and changes to the paperwork, which they fear may create unnecessary barriers for older individuals who need the support.
To address this, councillors have called for a workshop to be held with housing staff to streamline the application process, ensuring that older residents can access the help they need without unnecessary delays.
Speaking to KCLR News, Cllr Willie Quinn emphasised the importance of looking after older people in the community. “It’s essential that older people are properly cared for and that they have the resources available to make their homes safe and accessible,” he said. “These grants are vital, but we need to make sure the process is simple and straightforward for those who need it most.”
