The Irish Cancer Society says it’s important for anyone receiving chemotherapy to know that there is free transport available.
A total of 69 journeys to and from hospitals were made by 18 volunteer drivers in Carlow last year – covering over 11,000 kilometres.
While in Kilkenny, 25 Cancer Society drivers made over 100 journeys in the year.
Speaking to KCLR News, Kilkenny driver Cathal Cullen says it’s all completely free once you get in touch with the society about the service.
And he says it can be the difference between people getting their chemotherapy and not getting it as it means they no longer have to rely on family members, neighbours or public transport.
