Job Title: Éist Service Manager
Reporting to: Éist Chairperson and Board of Directors
Work with: Service users, Volunteers, Healthcare Professionals, Staff, Complementary Therapists, Counsellors, Relevant organisations, general public.
Location: Éist Cancer Support Centre, 46 Idrone Park, Carlow Town.
Role:
The Service Manager will be responsible for the day to day management of the Éist Cancer Support Centre. A large part of the role is to provide support
for service users in relation to cancer issues in their lives. The Service Manager will work closely with the Board of Directors, nursing and nonnursing volunteers, counsellors, therapists, similar agencies and the public to promote the company of Éist and carry out the duties as outlined below.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Service Delivery:
• Adhere to the strictest code of standards with regard to confidentiality;
• Responsibility for the day to day management of the service;
• Co-ordinate appropriate client programmes and appointments;
• Determine resource requirements, co-ordinate as required volunteers, complementary therapists, counsellors and ancillary persons;
• Maintain up to date indemnity certificates on professional therapists and counsellors;
• Co-ordinate training for volunteers and ensure they receive support and supervision;
• Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the centre’s programmes and services;
• Draft policies and procedures for the approval of the Board of Directors;
• Oversee the implementation of the human resources policies;
• Responsibility for Health and Safety and risk management in accordance with legislation;
• Responsibility for the overall maintenance of the Éist Cancer Support Centre building;
• Monitor the day-to-day delivery of the programmes and services of the centre to maintain or improve quality;
• Continue to develop a close professional relationship with the Irish Cancer Society, utilising their expertise and guidance in the development of the service;
• Ensure Garda vetting is in place for all volunteers, complementary therapists, counsellors
and ancillary persons;
• Attend relevant courses / workshops / conferences as appropriate to maintain and update knowledge and awareness of cancer related issues.
Financial Planning & Management:
• Prepare a comprehensive annual budget;
• Work with the Board of Directors to secure adequate funding for the operation of the centre;
• Research funding sources, oversee the development of fund raising plans and write funding proposals to increase the funds of the centre;
• Participate in fundraising activities as appropriate;
• Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the Board of Directors;
• Ensure that sound book keeping and accounting procedures are followed at all times;
• Manage the funds of the centre on a monthly basis according to the approved annual budget;
• Provide the Board of Directors with comprehensive monthly reports on the revenues and expenditure of the centre.
PR:
• Promote the service throughout the Carlow locality;
• Act as a spokesperson for the centre;
• Communicate with stakeholders;
• Establish a collaboration with community groups, funders, politicians and other
organisations to help achieve the goals of the centre;
• Develop links with local and national relevant agencies, e.g. Home Care Team, Carers Associations, Public Health Nurses, etc.
• Liaise with local media to promote general awareness about Éist and its projects and events.
Board of Directors:
• Participate with the Board of Directors in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide the centre;
• Identify, assess and inform the Board of Directors of internal and external issues that affect the centre;
• Act as an advisor to the Board of Directors on all aspects of the centre’s activities;
• Provide reports as requested to the Board of Directors’ meetings;
• Prepare official correspondence on behalf of the Board of Directors;
• Carry out duties as requested by the Board of Directors as instructed from time to time.
